One Night in Paris,
Pt 2.
Lightning Strikes. |
| |
|
|
You should have already
completed One Night
in Paris, Part I before embarking on this
tutorial, but it is not necessary.
In this tutorial we'll create
lightning and a custom flare.

The Lightning |

|
 |
If it's not already open, open your final *.psd file from the
previous tutorial (or the image above).
1. New
Layer
> Name it Lightning.
Paintbrush > 2 pixels > Opacity
23 % > Default Colors (D) > Switch Colors (X).
On the Lightning layer, paint white, jaggedy lightning lines
something like mine.
|

|
|

|
2. Target
Lightning Layer > Layer Styles > Outer Glow > Bright
Red > Spread 16 > Size 3 > Contour: Ring - Double.
Double click on the Lightning
layer to access your layer styles.
These are my settings, you may want
to play with the spread and size, if you're not getting the right
glow effect on the lightning.
|
| |
|
| |
3. Target
Lightning layer > Blending Mode > Color Dodge.
|
| |
|
 |
4. Target
Lightning layer > Add a mask .

Drag your gradient from the tip of the Eiffel tower out to the
far edge of one of the lightning forks. Your lightning should
appear to fade out into the clouds.
|
| |
|
| |

Layer
> Name it Flare.
Gradient Tool (G) > White - Transparent

layer > Cicular Marquee (M) > Make a circular selection
inside the gradient > Delete.
|
| |
|
 |

Drag a smaller gradient inside the larger one like this.
|
| |
