RESPONSES

Topic:
Is the music industry too suggestive with sexuality. With artists like Brittany Spears preaching "sexy" to 12 year olds does the call of "pay attention to me" overshadow the music? And bands like ShoCore using 'strippers' in their shows, does it add to the live performance or cheapen it? Or maybe sexuality and music just go hand in hand - it's always been that way. Would you rather Brittany was ugly and dressed lame...would she be anywhere if she was?

Below are responses I received from local music industry professionals on the topic: The Power of Seductive. Althuogh they didn't ask, I've kept them semi anonymus.

I believe sexuality, as a beautiful, healthy, pure and sincere expression, is a quintessential part of music. We are all sexual beings, to deny that is to deny ourselves. YET, exploiting sexuality and representing it in a teen porn, hookers and blow kind of way, and selling it to children like it was candy, is (I think) totally deplorable. That kind of s**t only perpetuates young minds more towards the kinds of sick social depravity we face everyday in meat-head culture. F**k or make love. I believe that what the artist portrays, be it fact or fantasy is, very telling of which kind of world they want to live in. And in sweet Brittany's case, where free will seems to be stripped, it seems obvious to me that her industry's dream for us is that we all become whores that they can buy and sell... or maybe trade.

Music IS sex. Always has been. Aside from cerebral prog-rock, inner-perspective loner, and pop-a-cop stuff, (though all that's sexy to some as well..), let's face it, Music and Sex equal success. I encourage it. Just because it's a challenge to divide reality from fantasy doesn't mean it shouldn't be met. It's inevitable one way or another. I would also encourage my child to sit with me as we cruise internet porn, as I explain, too! But then, I don't have kids. I don't believe in sweeping it under the carpet, and since the 'drive to procreate' is second only to the 'drive to survive', it only makes sense that we will utilize, speculate, analize, exploit it. We are (to the best of my knowledge) the only mammals that mate 'face to face', and get aroused watching others of our species, do it. Let's go where no religion has gone before - not deny it. Elvis..do you have any comments??

SEX DRUGS AND ROCK 'N' ROLL!

What else can you say? SEX SELLS!!

If Brittany was a pig, she would be popping zits in the mirror and getting ready to go to college every morning. But she is not, and she is hot, and I think I speak for most of the men in this world that we would not kick her out of bed for farting. Yeah, the little virgin, right? My ass she is a virgin or even was a virgin during that little media hype, I bet she was takin it up the backside long before most of her little girlfriends in grade school. I think she is one of those pre-fabbed teeny bobs, its the only way to make any sense of her. She is the perfect little Daddy's girl that wears tooth floss panties and breaths heavy in her music and pretends to be the innocent one at home. Whatever, she is just playing the cards she was dealt. Whether she is a virgin or not, she is infact a star, and yes it is because she is cute and not uglyand that she is why she is where she is today. Well, that and her touching her tits about a million times in each video too.

Shocore with the dirty girl strippers.....hmmmmmm....they are not hot, but kinda sexy from a distance. Sure it seems tacky, but at the same time it looks good and ads to the show. I think they could get hotter chicks though, like ones that don't have bar pudge falling over their panty lines. I believe Shocore could even forgo the Ho's and people would still dig their show, their music is good and it really gets ya moving. But again, it is all a part of show business, right? Yeah, I think the dirty strippers cheapen the show, but it may have been part of the plan all together to show they don't care what they do on stage that they are just here to rock whether they have hot dancers or ugly ones. I myself would rather watch hotter chicks strippin and spitting whip cream on tits than less attarctive strippers. But atleast they rehearse their act and for the most part dance the same as each other, so that looks more professional than some sluts on stage spitting whip cream on tits. If thats what you are into, then go to the Number 5 Orange.

I think what it all boils down to is what group of people these musicians are trying to reach. Sex sells. And whether you are into chicks or guys, you will watch a video with both dancing half naked or even naked just because somebody told you there is nudity involved. Sex is also a part of us everyday, we look at the opposite or same and guess what they have under their clothes without even batting an eye lid. And don't try to say you don't, we are guilty of it and that is all a part of being a human being. So Shocore and Brittany, keep it up as you are doing nothing that we don't do on our own without the influence of you.

I myself love going to shows and seeing half naked chicks dancing on stage. But the most important part is that they know what the fuck they are doing up there. I don't enjoy watching some ditzy girl with next to nothing grabbing her tits and shaking her ass throughout the entire song. I like how Shocore actually has some rehearsed bits for the girls. It makes sense, you are performing an act, know it and don't just wing it. It takes away from the fact you have dancers on stage and really cheapens it. If you are gonna do it, do it right.

Bodies are beautiful and fashion is art. But unfortunately in our current society where women are abused/exploited and financial gain is a priority, art and beauty fades away. In this context, sexuality is exploited in a way that is ultimately destructive. Just ask women who starve themselves to look a certain way. Just ask obese women who feel too ashamed to even visit a gym. Or ask aging women who should be praised for their wisdom yet are seen as being secondary to the young and "beautiful." Or even ask men who feel as though they could never take off their shirts because their bodies do not resemble "The Rock's" body. In a context where being sexually attractive is twisted to mean being young and "sexy" we all feel pressured to play up to these roles in order to feel accepted. This is a waste of valuable time and energy. What we should be more concerned about is Higher vibrational elevation and social responsibility.
