This album definitely starts out with a lot of
energy. As the intro to Love Burns creeps along you are edged
to crank the volume, then the layers begin to build. By the second
track, Red Eyes And Tears, something very evident in the
B.R.M.C. underground sound awakens an almost forgotten familiarity
within me. All of a sudden I am transported back to my late teens
and I am listening to one of the best non-mainstream bands to come
out of the 80's, Love And Rockets. I crank the volume a little
more and from this point on I listen knowing very well that this
album is already going to take precedence over all the others in
my CD Player for the next while.
The energy continues to build with Whatever
Happened To My Rock "n" Roll (punk song), and I am
in heaven. This band is everything I've been looking for since I
bought a CD Player and never replaced my Love And Rockets LPs with
CDs. Shame on me...I know.
As the album progresses I am wrapped in a soundscape
of pre-grunge, grunge sound. When I get to Track 6-As Sure As
The Sun the groove slows down a bit without sacrificing any
of the mood. Track 8-Too Real, is a very dreamy, free flowing,
party winding down and everyone is paired off and making out song.
Then we get back into what I like with Spread Your Love.
On the next track the album twists once again to that slowed down
dreamscape and continues like this through that last song Salvation.
Overall this album has a lot of rock, mood and
groove, and is full of good song writing and musical voyages. If
you were a fan of bands like The Cure or Love And Rockets and that
underground U.K sound then B.R.M.C. is going to bring you
back to those days. Thanks B.R.M.C., I've been waiting a long time!
